A major personality in contemporary dance, Meg Stuart traces the ups and downs of modern life, whilst offering performers a unique field of expression and freedom.  Six dancers explore the microcosm of family, which is both a tender nest and a lair woven from cruelty. The choreography is brilliant, insolent, and radically innovative.

Frédéric Flamand has based this latest creation on Ovid's masterpiece "Les Métamorphoses".  He takes the National ballet of Marseille to the lands of Brazilian designers, Humberto and Fernando Campana, who are famous for creating attention-grabbing art with a focus on non-noble and recycled materials.  The luminous alchemy between the strangeness of an overhead set and the beauty of inventive choreography creates an explosion of youthful poetry.

Inspired by the story of "The Wizard of Oz", "Malediction" is a poetic nightmare where dance, puppetry and multi-media disciplines lead us to the heart of a frenetic ballet.  Two rivals confront the demon of envy, who rises up between them in the form of a green witch.  They create a world where fairy tales and twisted visions are mixed together, exploring the dark territory of our inner lives.

Michèle Noiret [a leading figure in the dance world of the francophone community in Belgium] becomes a character seized by all that is unacceptable in the world.  In this observation of the human condition which is both tender and ironic, she cultivates the art of metamorphosis and transposes our reality with her imagined world, with extraordinary density.  Her questions, her revolt, her inner being and almost tangible sensuality are at the centre of this unusual, beautiful, sombre creation.

To open the 16th edition of the Schrittmacher Festival, Italian company Spellbound Dance  will stage an evening of two dances, choreographed by Mauro Astolfi. 

After a long absence from the stages of Liege, Belgian choreographer Wim Vandekeybus is back with a spectacle inhabited by wild beauty and the raw power of the body.  Peter Verhelst's text fits perfectly with the brutal energy of live music from Mauro Pawloswki of the band dEUS.  The dancers dig deep inside themselves to produce a carnivorous dance of unbridled vitality.

Claudia Castellucci's first choreography project, "Homo Turbae" grew out of Edgar Allan Poe's story "The Man of the Crowd" and Olivier Messiaen's compositions for organ.  The artist concretises her research in this dance, designed for a purely temporal dimension.  Her classically trained dancers perform a metronomic choreography which inspires a thrilling and contagious fascination.

In a piece of surprising urban theatre, veteran Canadian choreographer Paul-André Fortier offers a moment of intimacy between one man and the city.  At the mercy of the weather, his dance, performed on the pavement, simultaneously liberates and transgresses our ideas of urban life.  An itinerant artist, he will be performing for a 30 days in Liege.  He awaits you without waiting for you; you'll find him without looking for him.  This is an encounter with a celestial tramp.

Nothing up the sleeves, nothing in the pockets!  "Out of Context" is all about the essence of dance.  No impressive sets or costumes, just nine bodies expressing emotion.  Choreographer, director, and leader of the "C de la B” ballet company, Alain Platel explores his faith in humanity.  Luxuriant and minimalist at once, "Out of Context" breaks down the barriers between normal and abnormal, human and animal, pain and pleasure.

Claudio Bernardo returns to Liege with a show for six performers, including two Circassians and one soprano, who set off to conquer the heavens.  In this colourful baroque performance, the characters overcome their fears and measure themselves against the gods.  Like Icarus, Don Quixote, or Prometheus, they reach for the heavens, which mirror their hearts and souls.  Both amusing and thought-provoking, this show is a feast for the eyes: acrobatics, merry games, and breathtaking stunts alternate with poetic and brilliant dances.

Over the past eleven years, Dutch dancing has been celebrated at Maastricht. At the beginning of October each year, the “Days of Dutch Dancing” (Nederlandse Dansdagen) bring together the best shows, companies and performers from the previous season in a three-day spectacular at the Vrijthof theatre and in the rest of the town.
